Altars
An altar can be something simple like the mantle above your fireplace or a specific spot of our desk to something a bit more “fancy.” For example out altar is a small secretary desk that we modified. Each cubby of the desk and each item within are dedicated to certain Spirits and/or practices. There aren’t really any requirements for an altar. Just dedicate a space to the Spirit in particular and place any gifts that you wish to present to them within that space (again using our own altar as an example, there is a cubby that holds many things that remind us of specific Spirits that we call the Russian Twins.)
Certain Spirits will have preferences, yes. For example a dragon may see something like a treasure chest from Hobby Lobby filled with pennies (yes we have this happen) as an alter/offering. The chest protects their hoard and it and everything within it belong solely to them. Creating a small shrine of sorts out of shells and sea stones could be an ideal altar for a mermaid, especially if you are able to fashion a shelf in there to place offerings.
The point is that an altar space doesn’t have to be large or elaborately decorative. They can be simple. They can be handcrafted. They can be cluttered with odds and ends that a Spirit may like.
